Use the steamer to remove cornflour and fingerprints from your sugarpaste covered cakes and cupcakes to give them a perfect, glossy finish. Smoothing out these minor imperfections will give your cakes a more polished and professional look.
Ideal for dark colour cakes where these marks can be seen more prominently.
The steamer can also be used to perfect and finish sugarpaste models to a beautiful subtle sheen.
As well as looking beautiful, steaming your finished cakes has other benefits; a steamed cake will be more resistant to humidity. This will prevent the sugarpaste from having condensation and bubbling.
You can also use your steamer to lightly moisten your cake allowing you to easily attach Cake Lace! Also, try steaming your cake board before covering with sugarpaste for better adhesion and hygiene.
The Cake Lace cake steamer has a 150ml water capacity which is enough for 8 - 10 minutes of continuous steam.
Hold the steamer at least 12" away from your cake and move continuously to lightly steam.
If you already have a lustre finish on your cake, the steamer can be used to help the lustre dust settle and even deepen the colour, giving you an all round brighter finish.
For those of you working with wafer paper, this increasingly popular form of decorating can be aided by the steamer as it can be used to curl the paper, making the shaping of petals and leafs a breeze.
Previously if you had wanted to steam your cake, you will probably have used the steam from a kettle to enhance the final look of your cake, however this can be quite tricky and difficult not to burn your fingers! With the Cake Lace Steamer, not only is it easy to steam large areas of a cake, but you can also pinpoint smaller areas such as a buckle or handbag fastening, to give it that extra gleam.
For best results when steaming, do not steam too close to the cake or for too long. The best time to stop is when the cake looks moist but does not have water drops forming on the surface.
