Let's make donuts - 4cake_sake's Easy Recipe
• Lynsey Macdonald
Whatever the season, there's one treat that will always fit the bill. From fruity toppings in spring and summer to richer chocolates and caramels in autumn or festive cinnamon for winter, the options are endless. So let's make donuts, with this fantastic recipe from our friend Jessica (@4cake_sake)!
Here, Jess will teach us how to make the perfect "base donut", ready for whatever topping your heart desires!
Base Donut Recipe
What You'll Need:

- 150 g plain flour
- 60 g sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch salt
- 1 tbsp melted and cooled butter
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:

- Whisk all of your dry ingredients together.
- Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and add in all wet ingredients.
- Mix to combine until you can see no flour. Put in your piping bag and pipe into your donut pan.
- Bake at 175 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
- Leave to cool on a wire rack.
While they are cooling, it's time to make your glaze...

For the glaze, you'll need:
- 150 g icing sugar
- 50 g whole milk
- Tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Mix all ingredients together until smooth. You may need to add more icing sugar or milk depending on the thickness.
- You can also add food colouring at this point if desired!
- Once your donuts are cooled, dip into your glaze and top with desired decorations.

This is a great base donut recipe and so easy to build off to create new flavour profiles! I suggest using the Wilton donut pans for baking as always give a consistent bake and I think work better than silicone pans for donuts. They are available in mini (which is what I used here!) and standard size.
You can also easily make this vegan by substituting coconut oil for the butter, non-dairy milk for the regular milk, and a banana for the egg!
Thanks so much to Jess for sharing this recipe with us! Remember to tag us in your photos on Instagram if you try them out, we can't wait to see what toppings you choose. Use the hashtag #CakeDecFamous so we never miss your posts!
