How to use cake lace mats

To make cake lace, you will need a cake lace mat.

  1. First, prepare the cake lace mix by following the instructions on the packaging to get the right consistency. This usually involves adding cooled boiled water to the cake lace mix, so it's smooth and spreadable but not runny.
  2. Use a spatula to spread the cake lace mix over the mat, pressing gently to ensure it gets into all the intricate details. Then, scrape off any excess.
  3. Now dry the cake lace according to the packet instructions. You can let it air-dry or oven-dry it, but still be flexible.
  4. Remove the lace from the mat by gently lifting it from one corner and peeling it away. Be slow and gentle to prevent tearing.
  5. Attach the edible cake lace to fondant or buttercream icing. If your cake is covered in fondant icing, you need some edible glue or water to make it stick.
