After creating your cake masterpiece and piling on the finishing touches, it would be a shame to present on a plain old cake board – especially when there’s so much opportunity to get creative! Create the ultimate sugarpaste design, finishing off your cake to a professional and memorable standard, similar to this amazing concrete effect cake board created by Ben Cullen, aka The Bake King.
Using Spectrum Flow airbrush equipment and colours, it couldn’t be simpler to produce eye-catching and unique board designs. In fact, the only limit is your imagination!
This design in particular is super easy, using mostly only Spectrum Flow Water Based Black and Matt White. Ben begins by rolling out his sugarpaste and covering his board, before adding clever detailed textures to the paste. For this he simply crumples up some tin foil, some paper and some tissues and presses down on the paste, as well as creating light markings with a knife.
Next, he mixes Spectrum Flow Black and White airbrush colours to create a soft grey, then begins to spray the board. (You can ever unscrew your airbrush pen to form a splattered speckled effect for extra detail). Some Spectrum Flow Matt Toffee Fudge is added to produce a lifelike warm tone. Some black and white is also added again to finish off the shadows and finer details.
Finally, the pièce de résistance, a light layer of water is sprayed all over, before using paper to dab some of the colour off. AND, if you want to add some extra shine to your board, finish it off with a layer of Spectrum Flow’s Shell & Shine. Beautiful!
