How to make Father's Day Brownies!

• Lynsey Macdonald

Not all father figures are into the same things - sport, superheros, beer! But one thing every single one will appreciate is a homemade gift. The extra bit of effort that goes into baking a treat he’ll love will always be mean the most! So in this post, we're showing you how to make Father's Day brownies...

Whether you're baking for your own dad, your kids' dad, a grandfather or uncle, or even celebratory treats for friends and neighbours, these will go down a treat. They're delicious and easy to make, the dream combo. And it's a thoughtful present he'll always remember.

Is this your first Bake with post? Welcome! A little bit about this blog series....

Each month we share a tutorial with our community based on a seasonal theme or trend. So far we have created so many exciting bakes, with perfect treats for every occasion in your calendar.

Brownies are a classic choice, a hit of rich chocolatey flavour with that signature crunch on top and melt in the mouth texture underneath. They're also really easy to personalise too, with different toppings, sprinkles and flavours!

So, to get you set for Father's Day, let's explore what you'll need and how to make them.

More of a visual learner than a reader? We've got you! We always film these tutorials. You can view this edition here on our YouTube channel, or in the embedded video at the end of this post!

What you'll need...

We have selected a couple of our favourite products here but remember - you can have fun with the colours and flavours and customise your brownies however you'd like!

Tutorial - Father's Day Brownies

Step 1: Take your FunCakes Fudge Brownie Mix (or your own recipe) and make up your brownies. If you're using the FunCakes mix, you'll add eggs and butter, and bake as instructed.

Step 2: Take your baked brownies out of the oven and leave to the side to cool before you begin decorating.

Step 3: Grab your Chocolate Frosting and pop it into your piping bags with the piping tips attached. Pipe in a pattern of your choice around the edge of your baked brownies!

Step 4: Grab your chocolate melts, chips or chunks and melt them down. You can do this in either a bain marie, the microwave (in short bursts to avoid burning!) or with the handy PME Electric Melting Pots - we love this tool, such a game changer!

Step 5: Pour the melted chocolate into your chocolate mould - gently tap the mould on the table after adding the chocolate to smooth it out. Put in the fridge for at least 30minutes to set.

Step 6: Once set, remove from the fridge, turn the mould upside down and tap on your work surface - the mini chocolate bars should easily come out.

Step 7: Roll out a small amount of your blue sugarpaste, keeping it fairly thick to accommodate the stamp you're going to use.

Step 8: Press the Sweet Sticks stamp into the sugarpaste to create the mini message. Then flip the stamp over to the cutting edge where you can cut out your circle of sugarpaste around the message.

Step 8: Finally, add your decorations (your mini chocolate bars, any other sweets of your choice and your fondant message) to the brownies and finish with a dash of eye-catching sprinkles!

And we're done!

These Father's Day brownies are a gift he'll be talking about for years to come! As with many of our projects, they're a great activity for the family to try together - why not make them together for dad or granddad?!

Thanks, as always, to our baking queen Holly - without whom these tutorials wouldn't exist! We are so thrilled with how these turned out. While Holly has lots planned for the coming months, we are always keen to hear your ideas! If you have a request for a future tutorial, don't hesitate to get in touch.
