Halloween Cupcakes Tutorial

  1. Start with a ready baked and cooled batch of cupcakes - you can browse our range of cake mixes to find the flavour you fancy!
  2. To save time later, at this stage you may also want to colour your buttercream! You can either buy a ready to use pot, or make your own. Judit went for a combo of orange, pink, lilac and black here to co-ordinate with the cute cupcake box. Pro-trip - oil-based colours work best with buttercream!
  3. Take the FMM Spooky Halloween Tappit cutter and your favourite sugarpaste. Press the cutter firmly down into the paste to cut out the shape and simply tap against your worksurface to release!
  4. Now you have your perfect shapes, it's time to use the beautiful Edible Art paints from Sweet Sticks to decorate! Here, Judit used stunning metallic shades to add detail to the witch hat and pumpkin, and the matt black to add detail to the ghost!
  5. Set those aside to dry - now it's time for buttercream! For a pretty, textured look, Judit used four different shaped piping tips, one with each colour.
  6. Snip the end off each of your piping bags, insert the piping tip and fill the bag with your buttercream.
  7. This step can be swapped with step 8 depending on what you find easier - pop your cupcakes into your Halloween cupcake box. Some people prefer to pipe before while others find it easier to perfect them while they're boxed up!
  8. Pipe swirls of each colour onto each cupcake - switch out the colours as you go, this is a fun chance to play and get creative, making each cupcake unique!
  9. Take your spooktacular cupcake toppers and gently place them on top of the buttercream.
  10. Add a dash of sprinkles to any cupcakes without a topper - Judit used two different blends from Purple Cupcakes for added colour and texture.
  11. And finally, if you want to add some extra shimmer, take an edible lustre or glitter spray (like this one from Sugarflair) and spritz over your cupcakes.

And you're done! Close over your box before transporting - it is fitted with a clear window to show your Halloween cupcakes off in style.

Over to you!

We hope this Halloween Cupcakes Tutorial has inspired you to get baking this spooky season! Thanks so much again to the wonderful Judit for putting these together and sharing the beautiful photos and video with us. We love them so much!
