How to use Cake Box Extenders
Cake box extenders are a must-have item for busy professional cake artists working on large cakes. They are commonly used to safely transport wedding cakes, ensuring the box chosen has enough room for a multi-tier masterpiece!
They work by slotting into the existing box (either covering all four sides or sitting in the four corners). Once you've got your extenders in place, you simply pop the original lid for the box on top and you're done!

Here's our step by step guide to assembling cake box extenders.
Step 1.
Open the base of your cake box and place your cake in the centre.
Step 2.
Open up the extender and carefully place over the top of the cake so it sits around the board. When using corner extenders, position these snugly in each corner.
A 14 inch extender will fit comfortably over a 14 inch round cake board. To fit over a 14 inch square board, cut a slit approximately 3cm or 1 inch at each bottom corner.
The extender will now fit comfortably over the square board.
Step 3.
Slot the sides of the box together around the extender(s) and put the box lid on.

How to make your own cake box extenders
If you realise at the last minute that you haven't got any ready made cake box extenders at home and your box needs more height, you can make your own. All you'll need is cardboard, scissors and tape, or long, sturdy cake dowels!
Make cake box extenders out of cardboard
Cut four equal strips of sturdy, thick card, about 8cm wide, measured to the height you need. Fold them in half lengthways so you create a corner shape. Position them inside your already assembled box and stick them down firmly with a decent amount of tape to create your own cake box extensions.
Do not attempt this with flimsy printer card - you don't want to risk them collapsing and the cake box lid crashing down on your masterpiece! This method will only work with thicker card.

Make cake box extenders out of cake dowels
If you have heavy duty cake dowels taller than the box you are using, they can make handy, diy cake box extensions! We stock dowels up to 16" tall, so if you are working with a 10" or 12" box, this is ideal.
Once again, position the dowels in the corners of the box and secure with a lot of tape to stop them from moving. With one dowel in each of the four corners, you can place your cake box lid on top and protect your cake!

We hope this guide has helped you get ready to extend your cake box height next time you have a tall cake to transport!
