Each flavouring brand has individual guidelines to let you know how much to use. As some (e.g LorAnn Oils) are highly concentrated, it's best to always start with a little and build up.
While a coffee flavour paste will alter the colour of plain buttercream, there are clear oil-based flavourings that will not. Choose your formula depending on the colour of your frosting.
