What type of cake box do I need?

Cake boxes come in lots of different shapes, sizes and materials. If you're carrying a heavy cake, you might want to invest in a corrugated cardboard cake box, for extra support. For something lighter, a standard cake box will do the trick. But consider whether you just need a plain box to get you from A to B, or if you would like a cake box with a window to allow you to show your bakes off while transporting them! For any particularly tall cakes, remember you will need an extra tall cake box, and possibly even some cake box extenders, to keep it all safe.

How much bigger should a cake box be than the cake?

When choosing a cake box, always opt for one at least 1-2 inches wider than your cake. This way, you prevent any damage from occurring to the sides of your cake during transportation. For example, an 8-inch cake will require a 10-inch cake box to allow plenty of room for the cake and board.

Do cardboard cake boxes keep cakes fresh?

A cardboard cake box can help keep your cake fresh for a short period, providing a barrier against the immediate environment. It can protect it from dust and debris in the air but will also trap some of the cake's moisture, preventing it from going dry and stale. However, as cardboard cake boxes aren't 100% airtight, it won't completely stop the cake from naturally ageing.

Can you put cake boxes in the fridge?

Yes! Storing your cakes in cardboard boxes in the fridge is a good practice for keeping them fresh. They will provide physical protection against accidental bumps or damage in the fridge. They also help stop your cake from drying out in the fridge and absorbing any odour.
