Instructions:
STEP ONE: Fill your piping bags
If you're using one flavour of buttercream you'll only need one large round piping tip. If you're making two (we used vanilla and chocolate for these cupcakes!) two piping tips will make it a much speedier process! Add your buttercream to your piping bag(s), ready to pipe.
STEP TWO: PIPE A DEEP LAYER
Pipe a deep layer of buttercream onto your cupcake - stay centred so it creates a hill/peaked shape in the middle!
STEP THREE: CREATE THE FLAT TOP
Turn your cupcake upside down and press down on a piece of baking paper/parchment paper on your work surface. Keep pressing until your see the buttercream appearing at the edge of the cupcake - don't let it spill over!
STEP FOUR: CHILL YOUR CUPCAKES
Pop your upside down cupcakes in the fridge to chill for at least 20mins, but anywhere up to an hour (the longer the better!).
STEP FIVE: SMOOTH ANY BUMPS
Once you're happy the buttercream has a firm surface to decorate, carefully peel the parchment paper off and you're left with a perfect flat top! If you find there are any pesky bumps, you can smooth these out with a scraper or palette knife.

STEP SIX: ADD YOUR SPRINKLES
Roll the edge of your cupcake in your chosen sprinkles to form a colourful, textured border - we love the options from FunCakes and Purple Cupcakes!
STEP SEVEN: APPLY YOUR EDIBLE IMAGE
Take your edible image and apply it to the centre of your cupcake. Press gently down onto your buttercream - you can use a tiny bit of edible glue if you want, to adhere them more firmly to the buttercream.
STEP EIGHT: BOX UP YOUR CUPCAKES
Box your Halloween Flat-Top Cupcakes up ready to go! We have a fantastic range of cupcake box designs to choose from - the perfect way to present them to friends or family this spooky season!

The Final Result!
Here, we mixed together flat top and regular cupcakes in the box for a bit of variety! Check out the other colour palette we went for below, with eye-catching sprinkles from Purple Cupcakes.
