Homemade always feels that little bit more special, doesn't it? If you're baking a special birthday or anniversary cake and looking for the perfect homemade finishing touch, you've come to the right place! Our friend Judit from @yoras.cakes shows us how to make a pretty chocolate number cake topper with just a couple of products.
And once you've tested out this method with a number, the sky's the limit! You can create any shape or style of topper you like with these same products - such a great string to add to your cake decorating bow!
In addition to this step by step tutorial, you can check out our YouTube video to watch Judit create the topper...
What you'll need:

- Chocolate (Judit used the fantastic Compound Chocolate from Choctastique)
- A piping bag
- Sprinkles (your choice - Judit used a mixture of Purple Cupcakes and FunCakes sprinkles in different shapes and colours. Some nonpareils are good for filling space!)
- A lollipop stick
- Baking/parchment paper
- A piece of paper or card with the number shape you want to create on it

- Melt your chocolate down, ensuring it is thin enough to pipe but firm enough to hold its shape. You can do this in small increments in the microwave, in a bain-marie or electric melting pot!
- Place a piece of baking paper over an outline of your chosen number or numbers.
- Carefully pipe your melted chocolate around the outside of the number, creating a border. Then fill in!
- When you're happy with the thickness of your topper, cover with colourful sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet and pop in the fridge (or freezer, if you're short on time) to set.
- Remove your topper from the baking paper and add a stripe of melted chocolate to the back. Position your lollipop stick and cover with more chocolate to hold it in place.
- Put back in the fridge to set again and you're done! The perfect edible cake topper.

And there we have it! A cute, colourful, edible finishing touch for a special bake. Turns out a chocolate number cake topper isn't only adorable, but super easy to make too!
Big thanks to the lovely Judit at @yoras.cakes for filming this tutorial for us and taking the step by step photos! We can't wait to see all the celebratory cakes you guys decorate with chocolate toppers of your own having followed this.
