Meet the Team - Purchasing and NPD at The Cake Decorating Company!

Without our purchasing and NPD (new product development) teams at The Cake Decorating Company, your cakey supplies would be hard to come by! These teams help bring in new brands and product ranges, as well as keeping us well stocked in the products you love. In other words, our shelves would be empty without them and we'd never have anything new and exciting to share!

So, it's time to put the spotlight on the gang by introducing you to them and helping you learn a little bit about the people who make your Cake Dec hauls possible! From long standing staff members who have been with us for a decade or more, to newer additions bringing their fresh perspectives to the team, we really are lucky to have them all in our corner.

Much like our customer service department (you can read their meet the team post here), our purchasing and NPD teams are small but mighty. Every one of these people works so hard to ensure we're supplying you with everything you could possibly need, from ingredients to packaging. They are constantly on the lookout for new opportunities to make your cakey decorating life easier, and can spot a captivating brand a mile away.

So, we sat down with Kerrie, Jamie, Amy and Kitty, to ask them our quick fire questions about their roles, their teammates and, of course, their favourite cakes!

Kerrie - (Head of International NPD & Brand Development)

How long have you worked at The Cake Decorating Company?

10 long years!

What's your favourite part of the job and why?

The team. I work with the most amazing bunch of people who I class more as family than co-workers.

If you had to work in any other department, what would it be and why?

Graphic Design, because I have always wanted to learn how they work their magic!

Who is most likely to make everyone laugh in a stressful moment?

Jamie!

And finally... what's your favourite type of cake/flavour of cake?

I do love a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice-cream AND custard.

Jamie (Head of Procurement)

How long have you worked at The Cake Decorating Company?

Quite a while! This year I will be celebrating my 14^th year.

What's your favourite part of the job and why?

I really enjoy problem solving, but second to that, each day has it’s rewards and challenges and it keeps me on my toes!

If you had to work in any other department, what would it be and why?

Great question! Carrying on the problem-solving theme, I wouldn’t mind getting stuck into some NPD, I’m involved in that now but to have a project of my own from conception to sale would be a nice change of pace!

Who's most likely to immerse themselves in their work?

Amy!

And finally... what's your favourite type of cake/flavour of cake?

A well-made cheesecake is magical (not the baked kind, they’re the worst kind haha). If I was to choose something traditional then a lemon drizzle. If you are reading this, feel free to send some cakes to our returns address... ;)

Amy (Procurement Assistant)

How long have you worked at The Cake Decorating Company?

I’ve worked at the company for almost 6 months.

What's your favourite part of the job and why?

I have 2 favourite parts of my job, one of them is placing orders and the other is the working environment – everyone is very friendly and supportive.

If you had to work in any other department, what would it be and why?

If I had to work in another department, I would like to work in goods-in so that I can see all the products we sell!

Who would plan the best team night out?

Jamie!

And finally... what's your favourite type of cake/flavour of cake?

Chocolate or coffee cake!

Kitty (Procurement Assistant)

How long have you worked at The Cake Decorating Company?

5 months!

What's your favourite part of the job and why?

My favorite part of the job is setting up new items in the system and placing orders with suppliers. This process expands our product range, providing customers with a wider variety of options to choose from.

If you had to work in any other department, what would it be and why?

I would choose the New Products team because I enjoy seeing new items!

Which member of the team could win an award for their spreadsheets?

Kerrie.

And finally... what's your favourite type of cake/flavour of cake?

Mille Crepe Cakes in green tea flavour. Yummy!
