Meet the Team - Marketing at The Cake Decorating Company!

Every email you receive, social media post you like, magazine you find in your order, and banner you spot at our events is courtesy of one department - marketing! Here at The Cake Decorating Company, we feel so lucky to have such a talented team of people working hard daily to introduce you to our brand. They are the bridge between our business and our customers, and we couldn't do what we do without them.

From nurturing relationships with our fantastic brand ambassadors, to writing and designing engaging content to inspire your next bake, this team is responsible for balancing a lot of plates! So, we thought it would be fun to chat to them in this "meet the team" interview, to help you learn a bit more about who they are and what they do.

If you've read our previous meet the team posts, you'll know that each of our departments has a small but mighty team - marketing is no different! Balancing the promotion of new arrivals with existing stock and everyday essentials, while continuing to find new ways to inspire creativity, engage with our customers and raise brand awareness is no easy task! But these talented team members do it every day.

So, we sat down with Chloe, Victoria (Tori), Lynsey, and Holly to ask them our quick fire questions about their roles, their teammates and, of course, their favourite cakes!

Chloe (Head of Design)

How long have you worked at The Cake Decorating Company?

It will be four years in June!

What’s your favourite part of the job and why?

It’s difficult to pick a favourite part of my job! I’m a huge design nerd, so getting to dive into my work every day and be creative is honestly a dream. And with there being such a variety of projects - every day is different, and that keeps things exciting.

One of the best parts of my job, and the most rewarding, would have to be when something I’ve designed goes from a doodle in my notebook or an idea in my head to an actual, tangible thing. Whether it’s branding, product packaging, or something like the Cake Dec magazine, seeing it come to life is just so satisfying. There’s something exciting about holding something physical that I helped create! And even the smaller things, like the cute team drawings you see in this blog post, are a lot of fun. I just love to create!

And of course, I can’t forget to give a shoutout to my amazing marketing team— who are a dream to work with!

If you had to work in any other department, what would it be and why?

Aside from just picking different areas of the marketing team... I think I would have to go for NPD. I think being fully involved in the process of bringing in new products would be fun.

Who do you trust to give the most honest opinion?

Tori for sure! Definitely my go-to person for a second opinion.

And finally… what’s your favourite type of cake/flavour of cake?

Shockingly enough, I don’t really eat cake. But if I had to pick a favourite I would probably go with a lemon drizzle.

Victoria (Tori) (Head of Content)

How long have you worked at The Cake Decorating Company?

I joined the team in 2021 – I'm about to celebrate my 4 year workaversary!

What’s your favourite part of the job and why?

I spend more hours than I’d like to admit on Instagram, but I adore seeing the incredible cakes and bakes our community is creating. When we’re tagged in stunning bakes it’s always a highlight of my day along with when the amazing creations our content creators produce land in my inbox it’s such a joy!

I also love seeing new trends appear and planning our content to see how we can get involved. It’s so fascinating seeing new trends in fashion and interiors trickle down to cake design too.

If you had to work in any other department, what would it be and why?

I think Marketing is the only place for me, but if I had to choose, I think designing and sourcing new products could be super interesting.

Who is most likely to come up with a fun/innovative content idea?

Holly! She may be our newest team member, but she’s made a huge impact. She’s got her finger on the pulse of fun and exciting content trends and ideas and we’ve got so many fun things in the pipeline that Holly’s been working on - watch this space!

And finally… what’s your favourite type of cake/flavour of cake?

I’ve got such a sweet tooth! It’s hard work looking at cakes all day every day (but someone’s got to do it!). Anything Biscoff flavoured and I’m sold. I also love anything coconut, salted caramel and chocolate, oh and I absolutely get the Dubai Chocolate hype mmmmm!

Lynsey (Digital Copywriter)

How long have you worked at The Cake Decorating Company?

I’ve been here for almost four years! I joined back in August 2021 – the time really has flown past!

What’s your favourite part of the job and why?

Honestly, I just love that I get to spend my days writing about something as lovely as cake. Having worked freelance in the past, across a wide range of businesses, it’s a joy to work in an industry that is so creative, colourful and focused on making people happy. From birthdays to weddings, the products we sell are linked to so many “best days”, which means the content we create is too. What could be nicer than that?!

Another perk is the people I work with! Everyone is so talented and even though I work fully remotely, I've never felt like less of a team member with this gang!

I also love getting to walk round the competition entries at Cake International – it might only be one weekend a year but it is so inspiring.

If you had to work in any other department, what would it be and why?

I'm actually already a member of two teams – marketing and web – and I really enjoy both parts of my job. So, this is a tricky one! If I had to pick, then maybe some sort of wholesale role? I'm a people person and love to chat, so developing ongoing relationships with those customers must be nice!r.

Whose skills would you like to magically possess for a day?

I would LOVE to borrow Chloe’s design talent for a day! I can barely draw a stick figure – so her amazing emails, banners and packaging blow me away every time. She adds super cute illustrations to her designs that I would just love to be able to draw! And she's responsible for our adorable avatars here. So I'd well and truly make the most of that one day and draw everything I've ever wanted to!

And finally… what’s your favourite type of cake/flavour of cake?

I would have to say either a really nice Victoria Sponge (a classic!) or a bit of cheesecake (fruit or toffee/salted caramel topping). Controversially, while I love chocolate, I’m not a huge fan of chocolate sponge, so anything with a vanilla sponge base is usually a hit with me.

Holly (Content Marketing Executive)

How long have you worked at The Cake Decorating Company?

For just over 6 months! I’m the newest member of the marketing team!

What’s your favourite part of the job and why?

I absolutely love the creative side of my job. I’ve always had a deep love for cakes - not just the finished product, but the process of imagining and developing designs from the ground up. Collaborating with our incredibly talented content creators and helping to bring beautiful, unique ideas to life using some of our amazing products is something I’m genuinely grateful to do.

But beyond the creativity, I truly enjoy building a community through social media - connecting with people who share the same passion, educating and inspiring them. It’s such a joy to see how baking brings people together in a meaningful way - at the end of the day, we’re all just people who really love cake!

If you had to work in any other department, what would it be and why?

The new products team! I love to see all the new items that we stock and think it would be really cool to be a part of the full product journey from the very beginning!

Who would keep everyone motivated at a work event (like Cake International!)?

Definitely Lynsey! Lynsey is always spreading the positive vibes even when she’s working remotely!

And finally… what’s your favourite type of cake/flavour of cake?

I will forever be a chocolate cake lover! Chocolate and cherry or chocolate and strawberry are the superior combos!
